Course overview

Ethical challenges in Counseling are not always dramatic or obvious. Many of the situations that place Counselors at risk arise from everyday clinical practice, including documentation errors, telehealth procedures, and boundary-crossing.

Participants will explore these violations and how to protect themselves in the case of an incident. The webinar will also provide an overview of professional liability insurance, explaining what it covers, why maintaining an individual policy is an essential part of ethical practice, and how it differs from employer-provided coverage. Attendees will leave with practical strategies to reduce risk, strengthen ethical decision-making, and better protect both their clients and their careers.

 Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify common ethical violations and the circumstances that place practitioners at risk of an incident or complaint, along with strategies to protect themselves.
  2. Explain what professional liability insurance covers and why maintaining an individual policy is an essential part of ethical practice.
  3. Distinguish between individual and employer-provided liability coverage, including key differences in scope and protection.
  4. Apply practical risk-reduction strategies to strengthen ethical decision-making and better protect both clients and their own careers.
